Nonin Medical and Wayzata Dental Partner in Onyx® Study

Nonin Medical Inc., developer and manufacturer of innovative pulse oximetry and other medical monitoring technologies, announced a new initiative to study the use of the Onyx pulse oximeter in the general dentistry setting. Six sites have been selected across the country with Wayzata Dental chosen as the local study site. Wayzata Dental was selected for this study based on a reputation for being extremely progressive in investing in the latest proven technology and providing services that address each patient’s total well being.

In October of 2002 the American Dental Association adopted “Guidelines for the Use of Conscious Sedation, Deep Sedation and General Anesthetics for Dentists.” The use of pulse oximetry to monitor the patient’s blood oxygen saturation is a part of these guidelines.

The study will specifically look at benefits of using the Onyx in procedures using pain relievers and anesthetics.
